LCA Walk – Horsforth & Rawdon Circular

January 20, 2019 @ 11:30

Sunday 20th January 11.30 a.m. Horsforth & Rawdon Circular.

Join Rob for a circular walk of 5.5 miles. We will start and end at the Car Park on Fink Hill (LS18 5DX), opposite the bottom of Horsforth Town Street. There are numerous ways to get there by public transport but the simplest is the number 50 bus from Leeds City Centre – picking up, for example, opposite Leeds Art Gallery at 10.23 – and due at the terminus at the bottom of Horsforth Town Street at 11.00. Rob plans to join this bus part way along Burley Road at 10.37 in order to arrive in good time.

Buses 33, 34, 757 can be picked up on Wellington Street near the railway station and all stop at the bottom of Fink Hill on Horsforth New Road Side, with a 7 minute walk up Fink Hill to the Car Park – but there are far too many to detail them all. Use the West Yorkshire Metro Journey Planner at http://planner.wymetro.com/lts/#/travelInfo  to find the best way from your own postcode  to arrive at  LS18 5DX in good time to set off on the walk at 11.30. There are public toilets in Hall Park but they are unlikely to be open, so you’d be safer to arrive early enough to walk 150 yards up  Town Street to Morrison’s supermarket (open 10 a.m. on Sundays).  The walk takes in riverside, woodland  and many ancient ginnels and footpaths. A few of the paths may be very muddy at this time of year, but most are easy going. There are a couple of longish uphill stretches. Wear suitable outdoor clothing, bring water and a packed lunch.
We should arrive back in Horsforth before 3 p.m. and there are numerous pubs and cafes in Town Street. I personally recommend the Town Street Tavern.Suitable poetry themes could be Winter or perhaps more optimistically, New Beginnings.  More information from Rob 01132164492
