Kirkstall and Gotts Park with Poetry on the theme of ‘Industrial Revolution’

July 19, 2020 @ 13:00

“Rob has decided that, at this critical period of lock-down easing, he would prefer to lead a Leeds-based walk on 19th July  and will defer the Outwood/Lofthouse Colliery walk to a later date.”

The walk will start at 12 noon on Sunday 19th July at Kirkstall Retail Park, Savins Mill Way,  Leeds, LS5 3RP. This is the car park at Kirkstall Morrisons – it’s probably easiest for us to meet near that store. We will walk from there down a little known path beside Kirkstall Goit to reach Redcote Lane and the Leeds Liverpool Canal. Following the canal back to Armley we will walk up the road past Armley Mills to Armley Park and Gott’s Park. If the  weather is fine there could  be a short detour  to pass the Grade II listed Gott’s Mansion, once home of Leeds industrialist, Benjamin Gott, erstwhile owner of Armley Mills (great spot  for a packed lunch too), then on through the park and down Armley Ridge Road back to Kirkstall. There is a refreshment possibility at Kirkstall Bridge Inn but at this stage it is not known what arrangements the pub will have made for safe access. More should be known about this shortly before the walk.

The walk is just over 5 miles.

Bring packed lunch, water and suitable clothing for good quality footpaths but unpredictable weather. Places must be pre-booked due to the current restriction on numbers.
