SUMMARY:Walk with Jane Robinson
DESCRIPTION:I suggest everyone parks in the free car park near Go Ape at Temple Newsam.  Meet outside  the cafe at 11.00am. From there we will walk down the path towards Skelton Lake Services where there are toilets etc. From there we will walk towards the lake and round Skelton Lake and back to the Services for perhaps a short break. Then we will walk back towards Temple Newsam\, but taking a different path which comes out near the lake and then walk back up towards the house but branching off to the cafe area\, more refreshments/toilets/etc. It’s about 5 miles in total and my speed is fairly relaxed and nobody will be left behind!

SUMMARY:Walk via Robin Hood and Carlton with Rob Baker
DESCRIPTION:The circular walk would be about 4-5 miles via Robin Hood and Carlton\, mostly on well-surfaced disused railway line but some bits of field path could be very muddy at that time of year – which could mean detouring via minor roads – hence the upper limit of about 5 miles. \nMeet at 12 noon at the car park in Church Street just down the road from the parish church (Holy Trinity\, Rothwell). The church’s postcode is LS26 0QL.

SUMMARY:Theatre Visit: ALCINA (Handel) - Opera North
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Alcina’s island paradise. All men who set foot there fall under her spell\, but soon discover it’s all an illusion: Alcina is an enchantress whose island is nothing but a barren wasteland\, its animals\, rocks and trees are in fact her spellbound discarded lovers. When handsome knight Ruggiero appears\, Alcina experiences true love for the first time. But when Ruggiero’s fiancée arrives on a mission to rescue him\, Alcina’s magic is tested to breaking point… \nThis production is part of Opera North’s drive for sustainability\, re-using props\, and using second-hand costumes and minimal staging. The real drama will be contained within the music and performances. An experience not to be missed\, even for newcomers. \n  \nSung in Italian with English titles – Running time: approximately 3 hours

SUMMARY:LCA Book Reading Group
DESCRIPTION:The LCA Book Reading Group meets every Monday at 3 – 5 p.m. HEART\, Headingley. \n‘Death of an Old Master’ by David Dickinson – \nEngland 1899\, and the Salisbury Galleries in London announce the biggest exhibition of “Old Master” paintings ever seen in Europe. Excitement is intense\, but before the exhibition opens\, one of Britain’s leading art experts\, Christopher Montague\, is found dead in his study. When Lord Francis Powerscourt is called in to investigate\, he finds that every book\, notepad\, and scrap of paper has been removed from the scene of the crime. Montague had been working on something that would have rocked the art world. Did the article that claimed a number of the “Old Masters” had been painted recently by a single hand have anything to do with his death? \nPowerscourt embarks on an odyssey through a treacherous world of art dealers and picture restorers in pursuit of a master forger. He travels to Sicily where the trail grows cold\, but\, after the thrills and dangers of that lawless island\, it is in a remote corner of the English countryside where the truth is finally revealed. \n
