SUMMARY:New Dance & Movement Workshops with Emma Sutton at HEART\, Headingley
DESCRIPTION:This week we meet at HEART\, Headingley\, Bennett Rd\, LS6 3HN. For next weeks please check on our website just before the event. Please note that places must be pre-booked due to a restriction on numbers.  \nEmma will commence some new 8 week dance and movement workshops at the beginning of July.  The workshops will be held both indoors and outdoors (weather permitting). \nThe workshops will continue throughout July and August finishing on Tuesday 25th August  and we’ll take a break over the last week in August and re-commence again in September. \nWe invite you to join us for Line-Dancing. Our new workshops mean that we can return to meeting and dancing together as a group whilst also observing the physical contact guidelines.  Modern Line Dance retains its Folk and Country & Western roots whilst also including other styles. The music and routines will be varied so each week you might find yourself dancing Cha cha\, Bollywood  or even Samba steps as well as sometimes doing the old traditional Heel & Hook.  Our Tuesday classes will be relaxed\, fun and friendly with easy to pick up dances. Come along to learn a new skill – which is good for the brain\, make new friends – which is good for the spirit and at the same time gain the benefits of physical exercise. Please wear comfy clothes and shoes. We will dance in Meanwood Park (for the time being). All classes will commence at 2.00 p.m. and finish at 4.00 p.m. including a short break.  For any further information required please contact emma@leedscombinedarts.org.uk \nEntrance £3.00/£2.50 members and concessions.

SUMMARY:Kirkstall and Gotts Park with Poetry on the theme of ‘Industrial Revolution’
DESCRIPTION:“Rob has decided that\, at this critical period of lock-down easing\, he would prefer to lead a Leeds-based walk on 19th July  and will defer the Outwood/Lofthouse Colliery walk to a later date.” \nThe walk will start at 12 noon on Sunday 19th July at Kirkstall Retail Park\, Savins Mill Way\,  Leeds\, LS5 3RP. This is the car park at Kirkstall Morrisons – it’s probably easiest for us to meet near that store. We will walk from there down a little known path beside Kirkstall Goit to reach Redcote Lane and the Leeds Liverpool Canal. Following the canal back to Armley we will walk up the road past Armley Mills to Armley Park and Gott’s Park. If the  weather is fine there could  be a short detour  to pass the Grade II listed Gott’s Mansion\, once home of Leeds industrialist\, Benjamin Gott\, erstwhile owner of Armley Mills (great spot  for a packed lunch too)\, then on through the park and down Armley Ridge Road back to Kirkstall. There is a refreshment possibility at Kirkstall Bridge Inn but at this stage it is not known what arrangements the pub will have made for safe access. More should be known about this shortly before the walk. \nThe walk is just over 5 miles. \nBring packed lunch\, water and suitable clothing for good quality footpaths but unpredictable weather. Places must be pre-booked due to the current restriction on numbers.

SUMMARY:What hidden Electromagnetic Fields (EMF's) exist in your home? The dangers that this electrical stressor presents upon your health and how you can protect yourself\, with Craig Taylor.
DESCRIPTION:This talk will provide you with an understanding of the influence that EMF’s played upon my diagnosis of Fibromyalgia\, M.E and Lyme Disease in 2015\, using industry meters will make this an interactive evening using the group members to show how Environment Healing measures the forms of EMF’s so you can see at first hand the influence on illness at a cellular level in the body and how we then need to protect the body. With 5G\, the next generation of communications we need to understand how this differs from previous networks and how this becomes even more of a health concern that you need to be educated upon. Entrance £4.00/£3.50 concessions & members.  Please note: Places must be pre-booked due to the current restriction on numbers.

SUMMARY:‘Tolkien in Leeds Centenary’ – talk by Claire Randall
DESCRIPTION:JRR Tolkien started his academic career as a Reader in English Language at Leeds University in October 1920\, exactly one hundred years ago. \nIt is well understood how the landscapes he knew through his life contributed to those he described in his sub-creation of Middle-earth\, from the rural idyll of the Sarehole he knew as a child which influenced his vision of The Shire\, to the analogue of the trenches and No-Man’s Land in the Great War that he represented as the Dead Marshes\, but his time in Leeds is often overlooked as an influence on his imagination. \nAnd yet there are numerous tantalising parallels between landscapes he knew in and around Leeds and some of those he described in The Lord of the Rings. \nThis lecture will demonstrate these parallels with readings of the descriptive passages in Tolkien’s works and photographic landscape evidence.  For the student of Middle-earth locations and events such as Ithilien\, Woody End\, the Party Tree\, The Wapentake at Edoras\, even Lothlorien and the mysterious Amon Rudh from Beleriand in the Silmarillion can be found to bear striking resemblances to features in local landscapes that Tolkien will have known well. \nJoin us for an exploration into local landscape and historical features which in the leaf mould of his imagination may have contributed to inspiring some of Tolkien’s mythical landscapes. \nPlease Note: Social distancing rules will apply and places must be pre-booked as there is a limit on numbers. \nEntrance £4.00/£3.50 members and concessions including refreshments.
