SUMMARY:MBS evening with film screening of ‘The Seventh Seal’ at Howard Assembly Room
DESCRIPTION:Our May Mind\, Body & Spirit event will be a film screening of ‘The Seventh Seal’ with a 20min live music performance during the interval at the Howard Assembly Room on 25th May at 7:15 pm. \n‘The Seventh Seal’ is a 1957 Swedish historical fantasy film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman. Set is Sweden during the Black Death\, The Seventh Seal tells of the journey of a medieval knight (Max von Sydow) and a game of chess he plays with the personification of Death (Bengt Ekerot)\, who has come to take his life. \nDisillusioned knight Antonius Block and his cynical squire Jöns return from the Crusades to find the country ravaged by the plague. The knight encounters Death\, whom he challenges to a chess match\, believing he can survive as long as the game continues. The game they start continues throughout the story. \nThe Seventh Seal is considered a classic of world cinema\, as well as one of the greatest movies of all time. It established Bergman as a world-renowned director\, containing scenes which have become iconic through homages\, critical analysis\, and parodies. \nTickets: £5.00 \nPlease let know Sibylle asap if you would like to join us. We have a few tickets left for the event.

SUMMARY:Walk with Jane Robinson
DESCRIPTION:I suggest everyone parks in the free car park near Go Ape at Temple Newsam.  Meet outside  the cafe at 11.00am. From there we will walk down the path towards Skelton Lake Services where there are toilets etc. From there we will walk towards the lake and round Skelton Lake and back to the Services for perhaps a short break. Then we will walk back towards Temple Newsam\, but taking a different path which comes out near the lake and then walk back up towards the house but branching off to the cafe area\, more refreshments/toilets/etc. It’s about 5 miles in total and my speed is fairly relaxed and nobody will be left behind!

It’s brightly coloured\, dramatic\, and ultimately tragic. \nSung in French with English titles – Running time: 2 hours 40 – Age guidance 12+

SUMMARY:Walk via Robin Hood and Carlton with Rob Baker
DESCRIPTION:The circular walk would be about 4-5 miles via Robin Hood and Carlton\, mostly on well-surfaced disused railway line but some bits of field path could be very muddy at that time of year – which could mean detouring via minor roads – hence the upper limit of about 5 miles. \nMeet at 12 noon at the car park in Church Street just down the road from the parish church (Holy Trinity\, Rothwell). The church’s postcode is LS26 0QL.

SUMMARY:Theatre Visit: ALCINA (Handel) - Opera North
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Alcina’s island paradise. All men who set foot there fall under her spell\, but soon discover it’s all an illusion: Alcina is an enchantress whose island is nothing but a barren wasteland\, its animals\, rocks and trees are in fact her spellbound discarded lovers. When handsome knight Ruggiero appears\, Alcina experiences true love for the first time. But when Ruggiero’s fiancée arrives on a mission to rescue him\, Alcina’s magic is tested to breaking point… \nThis production is part of Opera North’s drive for sustainability\, re-using props\, and using second-hand costumes and minimal staging. The real drama will be contained within the music and performances. An experience not to be missed\, even for newcomers. \n  \nSung in Italian with English titles – Running time: approximately 3 hours
