SUMMARY:Mind\, Body\, Spirit Evening 'Positive Astrology'

SUMMARY:LCA Walk around Woodlesford and Methely
DESCRIPTION:An easy 5 mile circular based on Woodlesford railway station(LS26 8RA)\, commencing at 11.30 a.m. The Castleford/Knottingley line train leaves Leeds (usually Platform 17) at 11.16 and reaches Woodlesford at 11.25. There is a good station car park (strictly speaking for rail users\, though it’s unlikely to be a problem on a Sunday) and nearby street parking.  The walk goes past Woodlesford church to the southern canal towpath and along to Methley\, crossing the river for a brief incursion into St Aidan’s RSPB reserve for a picnic stop\, and returning to Woodlesford via Fleet Lane. \nHot and cold drinks can be obtained from the Two Pointers pub\, 5 minutes walk from the station. Unfortunately the pub does not currently serve food. \nTrains back to Leeds are hourly at 10 to the hour. Bring suitable walking gear\, water and a picnic lunch.  Exactly one week after the centenary of the World War 1 armistice\, an appropriate theme for poems/songs etc would be the End of War. \nFurther details: Rob Baker 0113 216 4492. \n

SUMMARY:Theatre: "Europe"
DESCRIPTION:AN EMPTY RAILWAY STATION IN AN UNNAMED BORDER TOWN\, AT THE HEART OF EUROPE.\nTrains from every corner of the continent thunder through without ever stopping but what happens to the people left behind? Written at the height of the Balkan war\, the last major conflict on European soil\, David Greig’s 1994 play has achieved the status of a modern classic. Locals and ‘foreigners’ collide as people passing through mix with those who’ve always been there. In a fading town people struggle to find purpose\, but humour\, beauty and humanity remain in the power of human connection and friendship. As our own relationship with the rest of our continent becomes more and more politicised\, Europe asks us to interrogate our sense of belonging to a place and an idea which we are at the heart of and simultaneously separating ourselves from. \nTicket Cost: £10.50

SUMMARY:LCA: Visit to Veola Re-cycling and Energy Recovery Energy Facility
DESCRIPTION:Visit to Veolia\n \nWe have arranged a visit to the Veola Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility in Leeds. On average\, every household in Leeds produces 470kg of household waste per year at the kerbside– which is the equivalent of 5 baby elephants!. With 346\,000 households in Leeds\, we collect a massive 306\,000 tonnes of waste each year from homes\, household waste sorting sites and other recycling sites across the city. \nWe currently recycle around 40% of this waste. From households alone\, in 2015/16 the amount was equal to the weight of 3\,200 double Decker buses. Our vision is to reduce waste\, increase recycling and recover value from all waste in Leeds. We are achieving this in a number of ways. Through our education work with communities\, we support residents to engage more with recycling\, while continually seeking to improve our wide range of recycling services and facilities across the city. Part of this work is the creation of the Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility (RERF) at Cross Green. The RERF\, managed by Veolia\, uses state-of-the-art technology and engineering to recover recyclable materials and energy from the city’s black bin waste. With our move away from the use of landfill sites\, we have also reduced the amount of greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere by the equivalent of taking 29\,000 cars off the road each year. \nAs well as the environmental benefits\, this has already helped to realise huge savings\, which will be used for other improvements and valued services. The RERF’s modern construction and cutting-edge features include an iconic timber-framed building\, hosting the largest living wall in the UK. Please Note: Places have to be booked in advance so if you would like to join us you will need to book ASAP letting us know your shoe size when booking.  Protective clothing will be provided. Please book by Friday 28th September. \nThis event has now reached maximum capacity. \n

SUMMARY:Theatre: "Salt"
DESCRIPTION:A JOURNEY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN\nIn February 2016\, two artists got on a cargo ship\, and retraced one of the routes of the Transatlantic Slave Triangle – from the UK to Ghana to Jamaica\, and back. Their memories\, their questions and their grief took them along the bottom of the Atlantic and through the figurative realm of an imaginary past. It was a long journey backwards\, in order to go forwards. This show is what they brought back. \nTickets Cost: £10.50

SUMMARY:Theatre: 'Tosca'

Edward Dick‘s new production is played out beneath the domes and frescoes of Renaissance Rome and features a stellar cast including Giselle Allen (Cavalleria rusticana)\, Mexican tenor Rafael Rojas (Un ballo in maschera) and British baritone Robert Hayward (Andrea Chénier).  Contact Sibylle@leedscombinedarts.org.uk for further details and to book. \nSorry this production has now sold out. \n[amazon_link asins=’B00KTQD7Z0′ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’LCA_Amazon1′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’b23baedb-bdc6-11e8-adad-eb0807a4d0f8′]

SUMMARY:Theatre: "Road"
DESCRIPTION:THIS IS OUR ROAD! BUT TONIGHT IT’S YOUR ROAD AN’ ALL!\nGrab your coat\, grab your bag and join us to roll in the gutter and dance under the glitter ball. On an unnamed Northern street\, our drunken tour guide Scullery stumbles through living rooms\, over cobbles and past lives. Through one raucous night\, we meet the many bold\, browbeaten and brave residents of this forgotten road. Jim Cartwright’s brutally poetic masterpiece blazed on to stages in 1987\, giving a spirited voice to abandoned Northern communities in austerity Britain. This seminal play remains as powerful\, resonant and jubilant now as it did then. \nTicket cost: £10.50 \nPLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS NOW SOLD OUT.
