SUMMARY:LCA Book Reading Group Re-commences.
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we re-commence our Book Reading Group at Meanwood Institute on Monday 15th June at 3.00 p.m. \nWe are currently reading ‘The Miner’s Daughter’ by Jennie Felton. \n\nWhen Annie Day at number four\, Fairley Terrace\, loses her beloved husband in a tragic mining disaster\, she cannot afford the luxury of grief. For a time\, all is well. But beneath her new husband’s respectable veneer\, lies a darkness which deepens as the years roll by. Annie begins to fear for her daughters’ futures\, particularly vibrant\, headstrong Lucy\, whose defiance of Algernon alters the course of their lives forever. \nAll reading takes place in the two-hour slot\, including a break.  All welcome to read or just sit and listen.  Entrance is £3.00 and includes refreshments. SUMMARY:Theatre Visit: 'Piaf’\, Leeds Playhouse. Postponed until next Spring 2021.
DESCRIPTION:This production has now been postponed by the Playhouse to next Spring. Born Edith Gassion in 1915\, no one could have predicted Edith Piaf’s phenomenal rise to fame – from singing in the streets of Paris to becoming one of France’s biggest international stars\, her voice is still revered to this day. But her extraordinary talent was matched with an equally extraordinary personal life… Pam Gems’ sensational and emotionally-charged play explores the highs and lows of the enigmatic yet fragile singer’s life and features some of Piaf’s most famous songs\, including La Vie en Rose\, Hymne à l’amour and Non\, Je Ne Regrette Rien. Piaf is directed by Adam Penford (An Enemy of the People\, The Madness of George III\, Wonderland) and stars Tony-nominated and Olivier Award-winning actress Jenna Russell in the title role.

SUMMARY:Thearte Visit: ‘Quality Street\, Leeds Playhouse. Cancelled.
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nThis theatre visit has been cancelled due to the Playhouse still being closed.  If you have paid for this production you will receive credit to your Theatre Visits account.  If the Playhouse decide to re-schedule this production to a later date we will be in touch to let you know. \nPhoebe Throssel lives on Quality Street\, the bustling hub of a quaint northern town where she runs a school for unruly children. Ten years since a tearful goodbye\, an old flame returns from fighting Napoleon. But the look of disappointment on Captain Valentine’s face when he greets a more mature\, less glamorous Phoebe\, spurs our determined heroine to action. She becomes the wild and sparkling Miss Livvy\, a younger alter-ego who soon entraps the clueless Captain. As their romance is rekindled\, can she juggle both personas? Or will her deception scandalise the town and wreck any future with the man she loves? J.M. Barrie’s delicious farce\, written years before his now much-loved Peter Pan\, was so well known in its day that it gave its name to the UK’s most popular chocolates\, made in Halifax since 1936. In Laurie Sansom’s directorial debut for Northern Broadsides\, this rare revival also features a commentary from the Quality Street™ factory workers\, whose own stories of hapless romance and growing old disgracefully give the show a playful Yorkshire twist.
