SUMMARY:MBS ‘The Great Whale and Dolphin Beings ‘\, DVD filmed live at Glastonbury Symposium with Patricia Cori.
DESCRIPTION:As usual we bring you the latest cutting-edge talks from Glastonbury Symposium\, which covers Truth\, Mysteries\, and New Frontiers. The main aim of the Symposium is to bring in speakers from around the world and to give people information that isn’t so easy to get from else-where. They have conversations and presentations about the things we are not supposed to talk about\, and looking again about the things in the world going on around us in a light that is not allowed to be shown in the main stream. This evening a Renowned mystic and eco-campaigner Patricia calls for a restoration of our fragile ocean ecosystems to save the whales and dolphins from slaughter and exploitation\, while sharing her insights into the role the Cetacean Nation is playing in human and planetary evolution.

SUMMARY:'The Turn of the Screw' Opera North Leeds Grand Theatre.
DESCRIPTION:In a remote country house\, the newly-appointed governess arrives to take charge of the orphaned Flora and Miles. She must fight to protect them from strange and menacing spirits. But are these apparitions real\, or the product of her troubled imagination? And what terrible evil occurred before her arrival?  Based on the ghost story by Henry James\, this edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller reaches new levels of terror and claustrophobia in this spine-chilling production. The disturbingly beautiful music ratchets the tension up to breaking point. Hold on tight to your seat\, you’re in for quite a night. \nPlease Note:  This production has now reached its maximum capacity.

SUMMARY:Theatre Visit: ‘The Marriage of Figaro’
DESCRIPTION:Figaro and Susanna are getting married\, but trouble clouds the horizon. Figaro’s master\, Count Almaviva\, is out to bed his bride-to-be Susanna. Meanwhile the heartbroken Countess finds herself the object of Cherubino’s adolescent passion. To top it all off\, if Figaro cannot repay a debt to the housekeeper Marcellina\, he’ll have to marry her instead! Mozart’s joyous farce of mistaken identity and misunderstanding\, heartache and forgiveness\, is bursting at the seams with invention and wit in this hit production. The sublime music bubbles along with comic high spirits\, conveying all the delight and pain of love\, and the agony and ecstasy of desire.

SUMMARY:'Night of the Living Dead'\, Leeds Playhouse.
DESCRIPTION:Seven strangers take refuge from flesh eating ‘ghouls’ in an isolated farmhouse.  As the night draws in\, their situation becomes desperate\, hope turns to  despair\, and the picket-fence American dream is smashed apart.  Seven performers enter the stage armed with cameras\, a box of props and a rail of costumes. Can they recreate the film\, shot-for-shot before our eyes\, using whatever they can lay their hands on?  50 years after the release of George A. Romero’s politically charged zombie movie\, imitating the dog and Leeds Playhouse create a love-song to the original 1960s film\, retelling it as a searing story for now.

SUMMARY:Theatre Visit: ‘Street Scene’. Opera North\, Leeds Grand Theatre.
DESCRIPTION:On a stiflingly hot summer’s day in New York\, a family is pushed to breaking point. Frank is angry at a world that’s changing too fast\, his daughter Rose longs for a better life away from the squalor of the city\, and his unhappy wife Anna struggles with a terrible secret that could tear them all apart… As the heat builds\, the tension erupts into violence and their lives are changed forever.  Weill’s richly varied score blends opera with the music of golden-age Broadway. Soaring arias and duets rub shoulders with jazz and the jitterbug\, and Puccini shakes hands with Gershwin.

SUMMARY:MBS ‘Talk ‘Why Your Mind is not your Own’ (The link between mass media and tyranny) with Janine Griffiths
DESCRIPTION:In this talk Janine will be discussing… Divide and conquer is the name of the game when it comes to the mass media. In this talk I will outline why I think tyranny would not be possible without the aiding and abetting of the mass media. Some of the topics covered will be – The Economy – Why do we have recessions roughly every two years? Is it rigged? The push-back\, why we need to stop contracting with the system. Brexit – Why Brexit is not what you think and why the powers that be will not allow us to leave the EU. These are just a few of the topics Janine will be discussing.

SUMMARY:LCA Book Reading Group.
DESCRIPTION:Leeds\, England. October 1897. Superintendent Harper is proud of his wife Annabelle. She’s one of seven women selected to stand for election as a Poor Law Guardian. But even as the campaign begins\, Annabelle and the other female candidates start to receive anonymous letters from someone who believes a woman’s place lies firmly in the home. The threats escalate into outright violence when an explosion rips through the church hall where Annabelle is due to hold a meeting – with fatal consequences. The only piece of evidence Harper has is a scrap of paper left at the scene containing a fragment from an old folk song. But what is its significance? As polling day approaches and the attacks increase in menace and intensity\, Harper knows he’s in a race against time to uncover the culprit before more deaths follow. With the lives of his wife and daughter at risk\, the political becomes cruelly personal. \nAll reading takes place in the two-hour slot\, including a break. Entrance is £3.00 and includes refreshments. Further details on 0113 269 0356.
